The Dry Law of Costa Rica
Some of you new to the region could not be mindful that there is a « Ley Seca », an antiquated previous style law that prohibits the usage of alcohol for two days throughout Easter week. Every year on Wednesday nights of Easter week the complete of the nation stocks up on booze as from midnight the law will take impact correct up to midnight on Friday evening.
Far from stopping individuals to drink, if something, you drink far more fearing you will run out on these days of festivities and gathering of loved ones and close friends, you stock up and fill the refrigerator and shelves with bottles of wine, beers or no matter what it is you like to take in, resulting in an excess of drinks offered in the property! The prohibition is generally leading to much more consumption. This practice of treating the population as if it was a bunch of little ones is past dated, and utterly ridiculous. It is up to each personal to decide whether or not they want to drink, or not!
As for the tourist, the make a difference will get even more absurd how do you clarify to them, as they are savoring a flamboyant sunset on an idealistic beach, that they are not able to appreciate it with their favored cocktail?
It is about time that this medieval practice was abolished for great! The police need to be occupied with far more serious matters than to go from bar to bar producing confident that they are not serving alcohol to thirsty tourists…This nation is just so sluggish to discover, it sometimes seems so hopeless…Mistakes, mistakes and much more mistakes. Wake up Costa Rica, this is 2011. Allow the past flow and welcome to the potential!
